Cedar Chest Facelift

February 6, 2011

Old Cedar ChestI bought this cedar chest at a consignment store years ago.  It’s been quietly sitting in the corner of our bedroom for the last several years.  Most of the time, it’s covered with stuff.  Books, laundry that need to be folded and other miscellaneous  stuff.

One of my goals this year is to turn our bedroom into more of a relaxing sanctuary.  That means getting rid of clutter catching items like this cedar chest.   So I decided to move this piece of furniture out of the bedroom and into our living room.

That means a new paint job.   Take a look at this beauty.  Cedar Chest RevammpI followed the advice Mandie of Altar’d outlines in her Refinishing Guide E-book.  I painted it in my favorite Behr black:  Black Suede, and distressed it just a bit.

Painted Cedar ChestIt looks great in my living room.

Dog in the Way! My dog Rosie thinks so too.

Rosie in the Way! Hi Rosie.  You’re in the way.   Go get in your bed.

Repainted Cedar ChestHave you ever revamped a piece of furniture just so you could move it into a new room?

  3. I like what you did with your cedar chest. I plan to move mine to our living room and add a cushion because it is also collecting junk and not being used the way it could be. Thanks for the inspiration and I like the distressing.

  5. Love it!!! You did a fantastic job! (love your dog too!) I just did a chest in white...I just have to roughen it up a bit...make it aged. I love changing old pieces of furniture!
