Take a gander at my new hurricane lamps. I just love how these turned out! I’d been thinking of making these and when I saw Kathy’s version over at Creative Home Expressions, I knew I had to give them a try. I thought I’d use the larger size hurricanes, but after seeing Kathy’s results, I decided to make them with the smaller glass hurricanes from the dollar store. ![]()
The construction of these couldn’t be any easier. I just used hot glue to attach the candlestick base to the hurricane top. Even with the smaller hurricane glasses, they ended up being about 9 inches tall. They look absolutely perfect on my living room coffee table. Gotta love that dollar store. Simple and pretty, on the cheap.

ReplyDeleteHi - Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving your nice comment. I love the hurricane lamps you made. I really enjoy finding pieces and parts at thrift and dollar stores and turning them into something fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to comment on your wonderful pictures!! That last picture looks straight out of a magazine.
I saw your ornament wreath in an earlier post and that looks like a great project too!
Glad you stopped by so I could find your blog.

May I just say FAB-U-LOUS! The only thing better than absolutely beautiful is cheap and beautiful! LOVE them! BTW just wanted to let you know that the closet crafter is having a Gift tag/Christmas card giveaway open 'till Friday!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I've been looking for something like this. I have small hurricane lamp style glasses which cost me a fortune and which only hold little candles. I thought bigger ones would be perfect for my conservatory and couldn't find them anywhere...you have totally inspired me; candle holders and Ikea chunky glasses!!! Thanks hon! xx
ReplyDeleteThese turned out so pretty. I love your photos too!! Way to make humble materials look amazing!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I'm so loving this idea!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I love using glue and glassware to create beautiful pieces like this; there's so many directions you can go!
ReplyDeleteCompletely awesome! Next time at the dollar store, I'm going to check and see if they have any supplies for this. These look great!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful! Must run to the dollar store.... Dee Dee
ReplyDeleteThese turned out great, Carolyn! I love how we can all put our own little twist on these things and make them our own. I love the glass piece you used to hold the candle. I actually went back to my dollar store to get more and they had none of the candlesticks! Couldn't believe it ~ I'll have to search out another dollar store now.
ReplyDeleteBravo! They turned out beautifully, just a wonderful idea! Thanks for sharing, your pics look lovely! Cindy
ReplyDeleteSuper cute and so thrifty too !

I had these items in my hands this weekend and thought "do I really want to make these?" After seeing yours, I think I need to go back and get my supplies!

Fabulous idea! I am definitly going to do this!!!! Thanks! Pinky
ReplyDeletePerfect! I have a "dollar store date" with a coworker at lunch tomorrow and will look for huricanes like you showed. I actually purchased 3 of the candle holders and 3 glass plates with the intention of making cake stands. I like this idea just as much! I heard you can also use E6000 glue for these to hold well... might be a bit stronger than hot glue? Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteAnd like you said, they are "absolutely" perfect!! I will be trying this one! Stop by and see my creation this week and let me know what you think!
ReplyDeleteLove them, can't wait to make a couple, thanks for idea.
