Bathroom Makeover

Well, I’m finally done.  My hall bathroom makeover is complete.  No major renovations here, just the use of paint, fabric, wallpaper and recycled items.  I’m really happy with the new look.  It feels fresh and the room seems so much larger.

Here’s the before:

old bathroom style
It wasn’t the worst bathroom ever.  11 years ago I had done a faux ragging paint technique that I loved at the time, but now seemed really old and tired.   Everything was rust or brown ~ too dark for my taste today.

Here are a few shots of the finished product:
bathroom redo
new bathroom accessories
bathroom redecorating
budget bathroom redo
Here’s a look back at my bathroom transformation.

Decorating with vintage Silver
I decorated with vintage silver.
  A New Shower Curtain
I made a new extra long shower curtain.

Fabric Tissue Box Cover
I covered up an ugly tissue box with a fabric cover

Trim in the Bathroom
I learned to use power tools and installed some great trim.

Bargain Bathroom Mirror Redo
I used spray paint to spruce up a bargain mirror.

Medicine Cabinet Makeover
I salvaged a broken down medicine cabinet

Towel Hook Cabinet Door Revamp
I transformed an old cabinet door with towel hooks

Graham and Brown beadboard wallpaper
I tried my hand at installing bead board wall paper.

Refinished Bathroom Vanity
I refinished my bathroom vanity with a sleek black stain.

Family Rules Art
Finally, I made a new version of Our Family Rules.

Wow, this was a long post.  Thanks for sticking with me through all of these projects!  Onward and upward to the next room….

Easy Tailored Bed Skirt

easy tailored bedskirt
I just whipped up this super easy, super cheap tailored bed skirt.

junk
I was tired of looking at all of this stuff peeking out from under the bed.

closeup of junk
Here’s a close up just in case you didn’t notice all of the crap important stuff shoved under the bed.  This is hubby’s side of the bed, and in his defense, we have really small closets, so lots of things get stored under the bed.

target bargains
I found these window panels at Target on clearance.  They rang up at $1.98 each so I bought three.  They are the perfect, neutral woven fabric.
Here’s how I did it:
 zig zag raw edge
I cut the panels lengthwise into two 20” by 63” pieces.  I zig zag stitched along the raw edge since they seemed to be unraveling like crazy.  Then I joined them together along the short edge so I had a piece about 20” wide by 124” long.

014
Since the long edge was already hemmed, I didn’t have to hem the edge.
  016
I trimmed off both edges so the ends would be nice and straight.   Then I measured the side of my bed, added 1” for each side hem, and 8” for each pleat, and cut my long fabric piece to this length.  I sewed a 1” hem on each side edge.

pleat
This is a really badly drawn diagram of the pleat.  Because the pleat folds back on itself, each 2” pleat adds 8” to the required measurement.  I pressed my pleat and then stitched across the top raw edges to hold it in place.

028
I pinned it directly to my box spring using safety pins.  Couldn’t have been easier.

Now everything is hidden away.  So much better!

Easy Weeknight Dinner - Frittata

This is one of my go to recipes for weeknight dinners.  I usually have the ingredients on hand and it’s easy to put together.

 frittata

Spinach and Potato Frittata

2 T Olive Oil
6-8 small red potatoes, sliced
2 cups torn fresh spinach
3 green onions, sliced
3 cloves garlic, chopped
~1/4 pound  Canadian bacon, diced (I’ve also used leftover bacon or sausage, both good!)
6 eggs, beaten
1/3 cup milk
1/2 cup shredded cheese
salt and pepper to taste,
crushed red pepper flakes to taste

007
008
Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat.  Add potatoes, cover and cook about 10 minutes until just tender.

add spinach and Canadian Bacon

Add spinach, green onions, garlic and Canadian bacon.  Season with salt and pepper.  Add pepper flakes for your desired level of heat.

Frittata
Continue cooking while stirring for 2 minutes.

 012

Add milk to beaten eggs and pour over mixture.  Sprinkle with cheese.  Reduce heat to low, cover and cook for 5-7 minutes.
