Last weekend, we took a drive over to Monterey for a day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Monterey is only about 1.5 hours away from where we live, so it makes for the perfect day trip. The weather was typical for Monterey: overcast and misty. Just perfect for a day inside the aquarium. The aquarium was built on the site of a former sardine cannery on Cannery Row (Steinbeck, anyone?)
I love the Kelp Forest Exhibit.
The aquarium has an exhibit called “The Secret Life of Seahorses”. They are just amazing to watch. I could sit and stare at them all day.
The jellyfish are fascinating.
The sea otters are always a hit.
We ate lunch in the Portola Cafe at the aquarium with a perfect view of the basking sea lions.
On the way home, we stopped at a roadside stand called the “Thistle Hut” for some of these.
And some of these delicious “thistles”.
It was a great way to spend a summer’s day.
Have you taken an excellent day trip this summer?
