I found these cute little T-Shirts on the clearance rack at Target yesterday. $2.42 each! Perfect for a little experimenting!
Have you ever made a fabric yo-yo? They are super easy, quick and fun to make. My grandmother used to have an entire bedspread made out of yo-yos. Just the other day, I saw some really cute embellished pillows over at Tatertots and Jello. Time to make a few yo-yos.
I searched my house to find some things to use as a circle template. I ended up using a planter and a salad plate. ![]()
Using this very precise method of measuring, marking and cutting, I cut two 5.5” diameter circles and one 8.5” circle from the purple T-shirt.
If you’ve never made a yo-yo, now would be a good time to visit Jen’s tutorial at Tatertots and Jello. Go ahead, I’ll wait… When my yo-yos were done (Honestly, this is really only a 15 minute project.), I pinned them in place on my T-shirt.
Because this would be going into the washing machine, I stitched around the center of each yo-yo with my sewing machine to make sure they wouldn’t start unraveling in the future.
Then, I tacked the edges down by hand.

Unfortunately, my photographic assistants were still in school, so I had to take this photo in the bathroom mirror.
I really like how the sportiness of the striped shirt contrasts with the girliness of the yo-yo flowers! Go Spring!
