Me and My Cell Phone

February 8, 2010

Verizon and JuiceBoxJungle sponsored me to write this post, and they asked me to talk about the ways my smart phone affects my life as a parent.

When my 13 year old was born, I didn’t even own a cell phone.  I kept a tiny little written calendar in my purse.  Remember those days?  Every December you’d have to go buy a new one and spend an afternoon transferring all of your information..birthdays, reminders, phone numbers.

Somewhere along the line I started using a Palm Pilot.  This was a step up from my paper purse calendar.  One place for phone numbers, appointments, and notes.  It was definitely an improvement.  No more scribbling in a calendar, or making a mess when you had to change an appointment.

Enter the cell phone era, and I suddenly had both my Palm Pilot and my cell phone in my purse.   Heavy, and cumbersome.   But about two years ago, I could upgrade to a new phone for free and I choose this little number:

It’s a Palm Centro and I really do love it.  It’s a phone, calendar, and directory all rolled into one.   It has a QWERTY keyboard for easy texting.  I keep track of the schedules of both kids and myself on this baby.   With commitments at work, school and two kids that play competitive soccer, it has become an indispensible tool in my daily life.   I can even update my Twitter account with it.  :)

Do you have a smart phone?  If so, which one and what do you like most about it?
