I Crochet…..Sort of

February 16, 2010
Ok, so I can sew, knit and do lots of other crafty things, but for some reason I never learned to crochet.  I inherited a huge collection of needles from my Grandma Mae but they’ve been collecting dust in my closet until now.

I made this last weekend while the rest of my family was watching Land of the Lost.  (Terrible movie, but it did have one or two really funny parts.)  I’m even old enough to remember watching the Saturday morning TV show.  But I digress…

Crochet Scarf This is me trying to hide the fact that I don’t have any makeup on.  Note to self:  put on some makeup before you take pictures of yourself.  :)

This easy scarf is really a just a long tube consisting of three rows of double crochet.  I found the pattern here on Prudent Baby.  Great blog, you should check it out.  It’s full of cool stuff and fun ideas.    It took an entire skein of Lion Wool-Ease Thick & Quick Yarn and a size N crochet hook.  I took Prudent Baby’s advice and started by chaining 125 stitches.

But before I could continue, I had to figure out how to double crochet.  Lion Brand Yarn has a great tutorial (video and written instructions) on just how to do the elusive DC.  (That’s crochet-speak for double crochet.)  I’m glad to say that it was really easy to make.

It’s really warm and easy to wear!  I love it.  Now my 11 year old daughter wants to learn how to crochet.   I can picture us now, side by side on the couch, watching another horrible movie…

  1. Very cute! I really like it and the yarn looks yummy. I crocheted as a teenager, I wonder if I would remember how.

  2. I like to crochet. For me it's more of a do it the way you want too rather than how you are suppose to. But that's the nice thing about crochet, it still turns out.

  7. Carolyn- very cute! If you have a second, check out my blog. I made one of these a few weeks back from the sky blue color from thick and quick. I love it so much I just bought the grey one and light green to try. It's awesome that you just picked up crochet like that. Lol, if you look at my first 'projects', you might get a laugh or two. Great blog! :)

  8. You make the best stuff. :) I'm tearing about my craft supplies to search for some thicker yarn....which I know I don't have (lol) so I can make an awesome scarf like this.

Oh well, a good reason to head to Michaels I guess. ;0
