I read and respond to my comments via email. I can’t believe how many times I’ve composed a thoughtful response to a comment, hit “reply” and and this pops up:
This ugly little fellow appears when I try to reply to a commenter who does not have an email address linked to their profile. When I first started this blog, I spent a lot of time responding to comments blissfully unaware that I was sending many of my responses to the noreply-comment address instead of my intended recipient. Very disappointing.
If you haven’t linked an email address to your Google blogger profile, then this post is for you.
Sign into your Google account. This should take you directly to the the dashboard. On the left hand side, click on “Edit Profile”. Once here you need to do three things:
- In the Privacy section, click the box that says “Show My Email Address”.
- In the Identity section, enter your email address in the appropriate box.
- Then scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click the “Save Profile” button to commit your changes.
So, now I’ll be able to reply to your comment directly to your email account! No more yucky, guilty feeling when I can’t respond to your questions.
On a related note, I have a separate email account for my blog. It’s free and easy to set up an email account through Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail. I think it’s worth the extra effort to keep my personal email separate from my blog email.
