Medicine Cabinet Makeover

Take a look at my new bathroom cabinet.  Isn’t she pretty?    She wasn’t always that way though…

A couple of weeks ago I picked up this old medicine cabinet on my trip to Urban Ore.  I was looking for some character to add to my bathroom and this $13 find fit the bill.

Junky Medicine Cabinet
It was filthy.  I’m talking wear rubber gloves and scrub the daylights out of it with Lysol filthy.   So that’s what I did.  Then I nailed it back together, filled holes, sanded and primed.

I painted it a creamy white, then rubbed a dark glaze into the details and immediately wiped it off.   I also added some new hinges and a pretty glass knob.   I think the finish turned out great.

Not only does it look great on the wall, but it’s added extra storage to my bathroom.  I plan to add a shelf or two inside.

It can also serve as display shelf.  I’ll be able to put pretty, breakable things up top and I won’t have to worry about my kids knocking them over.  Haven’t accessorized the room yet, but you can get the idea….

  1. I think this may end up being my favorite part of your bathroom remodel. I may have to go paint mine to try to give it some character (an 80's leftover). Your party went well, I am so glad for you.

  3. Great job. That was a wonderful find but I bet a lot of people passed it up because of the work it needed. You really did a wonderful job transforming it into something new.
